UKRAINE
CHRISTIAN ADOPTION
WHY ADOPTION FROM UKRAINE?
As Christian couples consider
adoption, there are some questions that come to their minds. “Is this desire to adopt a child
and share our home a call from God?” Next, they may question, “Of
all the places in the world, what is it about Ukraine that draws us?”
To answer these questions, perhaps
it is best to step back a minute and look at the whole picture. The first question of how to determine
the voice of God can only be answered in your prayer closet and on your knees. If you think that buying a puppy will
satisfy that longing, then obviously, adoption is not for you. The second question, “why Ukraine?”
is frequently coupled with yet a third - “how will we know him/her when
we see ‘our’ child.”
Some people want a guarantee when they adopt – they are not
willing to trust God to lead them to the right child. In this case Ukraine may
not be for them. This is the real
test of a Christian couple as they progress through the adoption
process. After praying and
turning it over to God, they can then trust that, at the end of the journey,
they will not just have a child, they will have THEIR child – the one
intended for them to love and care for.
They can be at peace trusting that God will bring the right child into
their lives. We encourage you to put your trust in His love, wisdom and power
toward you. Proverbs 3:5 and 6 says if we "trust in the
Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding" but, "in all your ways acknowledge
Him, He shall direct your paths."
Pre-selection of children is not
allowed in Ukraine. Only when you arrive in country will
you select the child you feel God has led you to. We, at Ukraine Christian Adoption,
firmly believe that our call from God is to use our talents and experience to
help our fellow-Christians find the child that God is directing them to. The same Lord who placed this desire
to adopt in your hearts is also working in us to fulfill his will. He may be directing you to Ukraine for
one very simple reason – your child is here. Because this is His work, being
performed through you and us, let us remain faithful, knowing that His plan
is far better than any we might conceive. We will make every effort to serve
faithfully by your side.
Because of poverty, alcoholism and
drug abuse in Ukraine,
Satan has claimed many lives including parents of small innocent
children. However, we believe the
scripture that declares “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is
in the world.” God is
present and at work in Ukraine,
perhaps even putting the desire into your heart to rescue one or more of
these precious children. The
greatest blessing you may ever receive may be waiting for you in a Ukrainian
orphanage. If you still ask the
question “Why Ukraine?” please feel free to ask us and we can put
you in touch with adoptive parents we have helped to find “their”
own child (ren). Many of these
parents have asked for the privilege of sharing their stories with others who
may be interested in making the same journey they did. A few of them are listed below.
"Children from Ukraine are Caucasian, usually
with fair skin and hair. The children are living in government-run
institutions with relatively good stimulation and medical attention. The
ratio of workers to children is typically one adult to ten children, but
varies. Some children experience developmental delays because of their time
spent in an orphanage but will typically catch up quickly once they have the
stimulation and love and prayers of their new parents.
The Ukrainian adoption program is especially attractive
for parents wishing to adopt two or more children at the same time. And the
cost is exceptionally attractive. We are very excited about Ukrainian
adoption program and highly recommend it because of its reasonable cost and
reliability".

"We did not select Ukraine per se, but were led to
our adopted children Lucia and Sasha by God's hand. We learned of the
children from a missionary and from that point on we simply followed God's
direction. We found the country of Ukraine not only fascinating, but
also with an abundance of children needing loving homes".

"Why Ukraine?
This is not an easy question for us. God chose Ukraine and put it on our hearts.
However, there are many advantages to adopting in Ukraine.
First, compared to other countries, Ukraine's
adoption process takes less time. We will be home with our new children while
others will still be involved in government processes elsewhere.
Second, unlike many other countries, prospective parents
are allowed to select their children after arriving in Ukraine and
actually meeting them in the orphanage.
Third, after "finding" your child, the parents
often remain in Ukraine
for several days while waiting for the adoption hearing. This period of time
allows the parents and the child to begin the bonding process while the child
remains within the familiar and secure surrounds of the orphanage and their
caregivers. This transitional time makes the departure from the orphanage and
their culture less traumatic for the child.
And, finally, we have found that the costs related to
adoption in Ukraine
are less than in many other countries. This is particularly true for those
parents who pursue the adoption process without an adoption agency."

"After raising seven bio children, we retired and thought the
remainder of our lives would be spent traveling, gardening, and enjoying our
grandchildren. Little did we know
that God had other plans for us. After watching a Television program on
Ukraine
adoption, we both had a burning desire to spend our remaining years doing
something infinitely more exciting and fulfilling than more selfish
pursuits. One of the
benefits of Ukraine is
that we were not disqualified because of our ages, as we would have been in
the U.S. Another reason we wanted to adopt from
Ukraine
is that the health of the children is verified by doctors who examine them,
and parents are permitted to hire a doctor of their choice to perform
physical exam or
tests. An added benefit we discovered, after arriving in Ukraine, is
that the people we dealt with were very adoption friendly. Although we did not speak or
understand the language, Kostya’s team met us at the airport in Kiev and stayed with us
throughout every part of the process.
They were there as we selected our child, prepared all of the
documents necessary, went to court with us translating everything both
written and spoken, and when everything was completed, escorted us to the
airport with our new daughter.
One of the more pleasant things about adopting from Ukraine is the
cost of our adoption was far less than we anticipated and Kostya’s team
watched over our expenses as if it was their own money.
